Plan to Find Thousands More Prospects for Your Business

Copyblogger.com recently posted on their blog How to Find Thousands More Prospects for Your Business. It was written by Sonia Simone. Copyblogger.com has great articles for anyone interested in blogging. They are resource that I turn to on a daily basis because of the great content.

It’s a fascinating article because it focuses on statistics that marketers have researched for years. Many times I run into people that think by placing a blog on the Internet they will become rich overnight. That’s just not the case. There are several things to consider when marketing online.

What response rate would you be happy with?

I remember when I first started a home-based business. I looked out over the freeway backed up with hundreds of thousands of cars. I thought to myself, what if all of them became my customers? I realize now that was very naïve of me. Because over time I have seen that out of 100 people, only three may be interested and capable of buying what I have to offer.

Whether using blogging, landing pages, website, e-mail marketing or direct marketing and other forms, the bottom line is only about 3% on a good day will even be interested in buying anything from you.

Some statistics that may be relevant to this post are this: when I passed out a well-written fliers for a service-oriented business, we would get a 3% return. When I would follow-up with the customers that were generated by the original fliers, I would get a 20% return. Why? Because we had developed strong relationships with them and they trusted us to meet their needs.

How does this translate into business? I knew that for every 100 people that I called that were existing customers I would get 20 that would repeat business with me on a regular basis.

With that kind of dependability and knowledge under your belt, could that make a difference in your business? Knowing the numbers will definitely give you the edge when creating a business plan or changes in your business plan.
